Events and Meet-Ups

Over the past few weeks I've been attending quite a lot of blogging events and in my usual unorganised way I've not kept up with posting about them so here's a mammoth round up :)

Motel Rocks

Some photos taken from Elodie, GlossyBox and Hannah.
The gorgeous Selina invited me to the Motel Rocks event in London. After meeting a lot of lovely bloggers outside Topshop we human bused it down to the event. Greeted with yummy (strong!) cocktails, popcorn, candyfloss and balloons it was a girly paradise. I had a great time chatting with all of the bloggers there and viewing the Christmas collection.

Clothing at Tesco
After a manic day (due to my triple booking accident) I attended the Clothing at Tesco event. It was lovely to have a browse around the beautiful clothes while drinking champagne and laughing with my favourite blogging girls. Tesco always put on the best events.

Birmingham Blogger Meet Up

Saturday was the #brumbloggermeet. I met all of the girls in Starbucks where we chatted for a while before heading to the incredibly busy German Market, drinking hot Pimms and apple juice and eating hot dogs. After this we went to Bar Room Bar in the Mailbox for a meal and cocktails. Unfortunately due to all of us having travel issues (it took me 2 hours to take a usually 30 minute train journey!) we didn't end up going on the night out, but I'm sure we'll all meet up again soon :)

The Heart is Hard to Translate

Maxi Skirt (Worn as Dress): TK Maxx. Cardigan: Clothing at Tesco.
Belt: Vivienne Westwood. Wedges: Kurt Geiger.

My first full length outfit shots! I think I look really short in these though, I'm not.
I saw a blog post by Mara where she had a hairstyle similar to this and I had to give it a go. This is my first attempt and I've done nothing to the ends but I think if I perfected the victory roll and curled the rest of the hair it could be a great look for the Christmastime :)
This skirt was a true TK Maxx find, £3! I love it as a skirt too, but I thought it looked cute with the belt as a dress too. I ordered the wedges with my £25 Kurt Geiger voucher from Elle Magazine, I thought I'd save them for summer but now I have them I think they can be 'wintered' up a bit. They are so comfortable. You have no idea how muddy it is today though, I nearly slipped over about 20 times taking these photos.
This watch would totally complete the outfit though.. HINT to anyone who's reading and stuck for what to get me for Christmas :D

I wanted to let everyone know about the My Street Chic Christmas Party which is open to all bloggers over the age of 18 and I know is going to be a great night. It's on Friday 16th December at Java in Bristol. I really love working with My Street Chic, everyone there is so passionate about fashion and the site concept, I know they're going to put everything into this party to make it amazing. Tickets are £5 which is cheap anyway but you also get a free drink on arrival, a fab goodie bag, and entry into the club after the party. There will be a fashion show by Boohoo and I've been assured that they'll be an abundance of cheesy tunes to dance to as well :). There's only 100 tickets in total so click here to buy yours. I'm really excited for it and already planning my outfit!

Where We Went Wrong

Jumper: Vintage. Jeans: H&M. Coat: c/o Zalando

This jumper is older than me, it was my moms from the 80's but I've worn it enough to have stolen it for good now. I've been looking for the perfect duffle for a while, I was thinking navy but in the end I knew the black would go with more. This one from Zalando is a great length and such good quality.

Being the ever so clever person I am, I managed to triple book myself tomorrow, thinking that the Clothing at Tesco event was Thursday I arranged to meet up with the lovely Gina from MyStreetChic for lunch in Birmingham. Somehow I've sorted it so I can do both but its going to be tight! Who's in London for the Tesco event?

BaByliss Big Hair

I've seen quite a lot of reviews and YouTube videos about this product so I've wanted to try it for a while. You all know my love for big hair so this had to be the ideal product for me.
My hair also takes so long to dry that I can't usually be bothered to style it after blow drying so the fact that this combined the drying process with styling was an attractive prospect.

When I first unboxed the styler I was struck my just how big it was, I was expecting the handle to be more the size of the average curling iron, the size sometimes makes it a little difficult to maneuver and might not be the most ergonomically designed thing I've ever seen, however, this is probably my only negative about the product.
I think even for a novice this would be an easy tool to use, as long as you learn which button spins which way! The brush has very soft bristles so if you do get in a bit of a tangle with the spinner its easily removed with minimal pain and effort. When I felt how soft the brush was I thought I was going to need to take really small sections of hair to style but it surprisingly takes large pieces really well, which is a huge plus for someone with hair as thick as mine.
The actual styling takes no time at all and I was beyond impressed with the results, my hair felt smooth and looked shiny, I've not ever seen my hair blow dried so well before, even by the hairdressers taking maybe 3 times as long to do it.

I've only tried the dryer curling my hair under but I definitely want to have a go with it flicking out to see if I can achieve a Farrah Fawcett style :)

Let me know if you'd like to see a video tutorial using the Babyliss Big Hair.

I was sent this product to review but all opinions are 100% my own.

Models Own Beetle Juice Collection

L-R: Pinky Brown, Purple Blue, Aqua Violet, Emerald Black and Golden Green.

I think there's been a lot of hype around this collection, and I was caught up in it all. As soon as it was released I bought the entire collection, and I love it!

Without Flash

I was surprised that all of the polishes are such different formulations. The first two (Pinky Brown and Purple Blue) are a kind of micro glitter which produces an almost holographic duo chrome effect but is completely opaque in two coats.. it's also not like glitter to get off, so you get the best of both worlds. Aqua Violet reminds me of a Miss Sporty colour I used to wear non-stop when I was about 13 but it's a beautiful colour. The texture  of Aqua Violet and Golden Green is similar to the metallics from Models Own, I was expecting this formulation from the entire collection, I think these may not be as long wearing as the other colours. I found both of the greens, although lovely colours, a little disappointing in terms of being 'multi-tonal', Golden Green has a slight gold shimmer when in a certain light but isn't very noticeable. Emerald black has a blueish shimmer in the bottle but this doesn't transfer to the nail when applied, it comes out like a very dark green, the texture is similar to the rest of the flat colours from Models Own, even though I don't believe it's multi-tonal or duo chrome I do love my dark polishes so I think I will be getting a lot of wear from this colour.

My favourites are definitely Pinky Brown and Purple Blue, the formulation is gorgeous to apply, dries quickly and looks stunning on the nails. I think due to the micro glitter quality of these polishes they will also be longer wearing. I hope Models Own make some more 'micro glitter' polishes, I would love to see which other colours they could come up with.

Have you bought any of the Beetle Juice Polishes yet?

Blog Love: A Fine Day For Sailing

I wanted to introduce everyone to a fabulous blog that I found not too long ago.. A Fine Day for Sailing.

Isla has such a great style, I love the way she mixes different thrifted and vintage pieces in ways you wouldn't ordinarily think of. She always seems so sincere and happy in her posts. I really love the way she writes and puts herself across to her audience. I have total tattoo envy too.
She also has a great esty shop selling all kinds of vintage clothing for great prices.
